Report: Cowboys OT Smith considers shutting down for season

Dallas Cowboys left tackle Tyron Smith remains sidelined with a neck issue and could be shut down for the season.

NFL Network reported Thursday that Smith is seeking additional medical opinions for his injury, first sustained in practice last month, and is unlikely to practice or play this week.

Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy said Smith was “behind where he was last week” when he returned to practice for the first time since Sept. 17. Team owner Jerry Jones classified the injury as a “stinger.”

Smith, 29, has missed at least three games in four consecutive seasons.

Smith is midway through an eight-year, $97.6-million contract that runs through the 2024 season. The ninth overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft, Smith is a seven-time Pro Bowl selection and two-time All-Pro (2014, 2016).
