GAME BREAKDOWN
KEY MATCHUP: Wake Forest running backs vs. Notre Dame’s defensive front. Wake Forest running backs Cade Carney and Matt Colburn both eclipsed the 100-yard mark on the ground in the Boston College game. For Carney, it was his second game in a row with more than 100 rushing yards. The ability for the Demon Deacons to establish a rushing attack is vital as freshman QB Sam Hartman continues to go through ups and downs. Wake Forest averages 264 yards per game on the ground. Notre Dame can be physical up front and the Irish can probably match what shapes up to be a pretty strong offensive line for the Demon Deacons. Notre Dame hasn’t allowed a rushing play for 20 or more yards this season.
DRAFT SLANT
–C Ryan Anderson has started 32 consecutive games. He’s capable of shifting to guard or tackle if that’s what the Demon Deacons need. His stock began to rise last year as the Demon Deacons racked up record yardage totals and now scouts will have a chance to zero in on him to see what he’s doing so well on a regular basis.
ROSTER REPORT
–QB Kendall Hinton is back after serving a three-game suspension. The likely starter at the beginning of the season, he’s listed as the second-string quarterback going into the week for the Notre Dame game.
–WR Scotty Washington has dealt with injuries and he’s slotted as the backup to WR Sage Surratt.
–WR Alex Bachman, who had a sterling start to the season in two games until sidelined by a hamstring injury, could be back for the Notre Dame game after a one-game absence.
