Auburn starting quarterback Nick Marshall was cited for marijuana possession during a traffic stop on Friday in Reynolds, Ga.
Marshall was not arrested after he was pulled over for a potential window tinting violation at 12:48 p.m. ET and the officer smelled marijuana, Reynolds police chief Lonnie Holder told WSFA-TV. Less than an ounce of residue was discovered in the vehicle.
Reynolds is between Auburn, Ala., and Pineview, Ga., Marshall’s hometown.
The senior led Auburn into the BCS National Championship game last season. He is expected to be one of the top quarterbacks in the Southeastern Conference and could contend for the Heisman Trophy this year.
Reynolds is scheduled to be one of Auburn’s player representatives for the annual media days next week in Hoover, Ala. There was no word from the program on Marshall’s status after the traffic stop.
