A four-star prep quarterback committed to Northwestern’s Class of 2020 was arrested on suspicion of sexually assaulting more than one young woman on a party bus.
Aidan Atkinson, the reigning Colorado Gatorade Player of the Year, faces three charges of sexual assault, five charges of unlawful sexual contact and one charge of attempted sexual assault, the Boulder Daily Camera reported. The incidents allegedly occurred in September 2018 when he was a juvenile.
He now is 18. He was jailed Friday and will remain there until at least his first court appearance on Monday.
Atkinson is listed as the nation’s No. 14 pro-style quarterback by the 247Sports composite and is in his senior season at Fairview High School in Boulder. Fairview lost the 5A playoff game Friday night against Cherry Creek, 42-28.
Atkinson this year broke the Colorado career records for passing yards and passing touchdowns. He committed to Northwestern in November 2018 and had offers from other Power 5 conference teams, including Colorado, South Carolina and Ole Miss.
A Northwestern official said the university couldn’t comment because Atkinson had yet to sign a national letter of intent.
