Saints’ Brees, Kamara limited in practice

New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees and running back Alvin Kamara were limited in practice on Thursday.

While Brees was also limited for Wednesday’s practice, Kamara’s presence on Thursday was an upgrade after he missed the previous session due to separate knee and ankle injuries. Kamara sat out New Orleans’ 36-25 victory over the Chicago Bears last Sunday.

Brees has not played since Sept. 15, when he sustained an injury to the thumb on his throwing hand in a game against the Los Angeles Rams.

The NFL’s all-time leader in passing yards underwent surgery on the thumb and initially faced a 6-to-8 week recovery, but said that he thought he could return sooner than expected.

Teddy Bridgewater has led the Saints to a 5-0 record as their starter, completing 132 of 195 passes for 1,370 yards with nine touchdowns and two interceptions. Brees went 35-of-48 passing for 408 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions in two games before the injury.

Kamara has rushed for 373 yards on 86 carries with one touchdown in six games this season. He also has 33 receptions for 276 yards and one score.

Tight end Jared Cook missed his second straight practice on Thursday with an ankle injury for New Orleans (6-1), which hosts Arizona (3-3-1) on Sunday (1 p.m. ET).
