Stanford QBs Costello, Mills questionable this week

Stanford’s top two quarterbacks remain questionable for this week’s home game against Arizona, coach David Shaw said Tuesday.

Starter K.J. Costello has missed three consecutive games (and four overall) because of a thumb injury. Costello’s replacement, Davis Mills, sat out last week’s 34-16 loss to visiting UCLA due to a calf injury.

The job fell Saturday to redshirt freshman Jack West, who completed 15 of 32 passes for 143 yards and was sacked seven times.

Stanford (3-4, 2-3 Pac-12) will be without senior kicker Jet Toner for the rest of the season, Shaw announced. Toner left Saturday’s game with an apparent injury to his kicking leg, suffered while covering a kickoff.

He has made 12 of 16 field goal attempts this season, including a 39-yarder in the final seconds that beat Oregon State 31-28 on Sept. 28. He is 47 of 57 in his career.
