Wake Forest senior linebacker and team captain Justin Strnad will be out for the rest of the season after he sustained a ruptured biceps tendon in last week’s game against Florida State.
“We are disappointed for Justin,” coach Dave Clawson said in a statement Tuesday.
“Justin was one of those players who left it all on the field for Wake Forest the last five years. He’s been an outstanding player, a great leader and did everything right in our program. He will still be a valuable part of our program moving forward.”
Strnad underwent surgery on Tuesday. Rehabilitation can begin after a healing process that will take four to six weeks. Full recovery is expected to take three to four months.
Strnad, the team leader in tackles with 69, sustained the injury in the third quarter of the Demon Deacons’ 22-20 victory. He started the past 20 games for Wake Forest, and his average of 9.7 tackles per game ranks seventh in the ACC.
He has 244 career tackles, including 22.5 for loss and eight sacks, along with four interceptions.
No. 25 Wake Forest (6-1, 2-1 ACC) next plays Nov. 2 against North Carolina State.
