New York Giants star running back Saquon Barkley does not need surgery on his injured right ankle, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported Thursday.
That is the recommendation Barkley received after visiting specialist Dr. Robert Anderson in Green Bay, Wis., according to the report.
Barkley, the 2018 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year, suffered a high ankle sprain in Sunday’s 32-31 win against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
He is expected to miss at least four to six weeks for rehabilitation, but Giants coach Pat Shurmur said the team is not planning to put him on injured reserve.
Barkley opened this season with back-to-back 100-yard games and has carried 37 times for 237 yards and one touchdown. He also has 11 catches for 74 yards.
