Report: Ex-USC WR Williams transferring to Oregon State

Former Southern California wide receiver Devon Williams, the No. 1-rated high school athlete in the Class of 2018, reportedly will transfer to Oregon State.

Williams, who entered the transfer protocol earlier this month, was on the Corvallis, Ore., campus on Wednesday, the Oregonian’s Andrew Nemec reported.

According to Nemec, Williams originally scheduled to visits to both Oregon State and Oregon on Sept. 14, but he enjoyed his day visit with the Beavers so much, he canceled his trip to Eugene, Ore., to get better acquainted with the Oregon State program.

Nemec reported Oregon State has an open scholarship currently available, meaning adding Williams would not force any additional changes to the roster.

The 6-foot-4 Williams, who would be a redshirt sophomore when he becomes eligible to play next season, had four receptions for 87 yards and a touchdown as a freshman in 2018. His best game came in Corvallis, where he had three catches for 77 yards and his only touchdown.

He played in one game this season, catching one pass for 11 yards against Stanford on Sept. 7.

Rivals rated Williams the No. 1 athlete and 247Sports rated him the nation’s No. 6 wide receiver when he was a senior at Antelope Valley High School in Lancaster, Calif.
