White Sox send 1B Reed to Triple-A Charlotte

The Chicago White Sox optioned first baseman AJ Reed to Triple-A Charlotte on Thursday.

Reed, 26, was claimed off waivers from the Houston Astros on July 8.

He is hitting .136 (6-for-44) with one home run and four RBIs in 14 games this season.

A productive player in the minors, the Astros’ 2014 second-round pick had 34 homers and 127 RBIs in 2015, 34 homers and 104 RBIs in 2017 and 28 homers and 108 RBIs in 2018.

However in 61 major league games since 2016, he is hitting just .152 with four homers and 12 RBIs.

The White Sox will make a corresponding roster move prior to Friday night’s series opener at Philadelphia.
