The Los Angeles Dodgers recalled right-hander Tony Gonsolin from Triple-A Oklahoma City on Tuesday, sending reliever Josh Sborz to the minor league club.
Gonsolin, 25, is making his second appearance with the Dodgers after he made his major league debut in a start against the Arizona Diamondbacks on June 26. He allowed six runs (four earned) and six hits in four innings, taking the loss.
He is 1-4 with a 4.95 ERA in 12 starts at Oklahoma City.
Sborz, 25, has an 18.00 ERA in three innings across two appearances for the Dodgers this season. He pitched two innings Monday night, so bringing up Gonsolin gives Los Angeles a fresh arm as it tries to fill a hole in the rotation created when Ross Stripling went on the 10-day injured list (right biceps tendinitis) on Saturday.
Stripling’s turn would have been Tuesday night at the Colorado Rockies.
