Tigers sign Rosenthal to minor-league deal

The Detroit Tigers signed right-hander Trevor Rosenthal to a minor-league deal Saturday.

Rosenthal, 29, will head to Triple-A Toledo as he looks to resurrect his big league career. He was released by the Washington Nationals a week ago after going 0-1 with a 22.74 ERA (16 earned runs in 6 1/3 innings) in 12 relief appearances.

The Tigers hope that Rosenthal can rediscover his command, which helped him notch 121 saves in six seasons with the St. Louis Cardinals. He can throw in the upper 90s but issued 15 walks to go along with only five strikeouts for the Nationals.
