Rays activate INF Diaz (hamstring) from IL

The Tampa Bay Rays activated infielder Yandy Diaz, who has been out because of a strained right hamstring, from the 10-day injured list before Thursday afternoon’s game at the Minnesota Twins.

Diaz, who missed the minimum amount of time, was in the starting lineup Thursday, hitting fourth and playing third base.

Diaz, 27, is having a breakout season in his first season with the Rays after being acquired from the Cleveland Indians in a three-way trade that included the Seattle Mariners in December. He is hitting .286 with 11 home runs and 31 RBIs in 56 games.

In a corresponding move, the Rays sent right-hander Hunter Wood (1-1, 2.25 ERA) to Triple-A Durham. Wood, 25, has made 15 appearances, spanning 24 innings, and had worked in each of the past two games.
