Pirates place OF Polanco (shoulder) on IL


The Pittsburgh Pirates put outfielder Gregory Polanco on the 10-day injured list Saturday with posterior left shoulder inflammation.

Outfielder Jason Martin was recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis to replace Polanco on the active roster.

Polanco, 27, is batting .242 with six home runs and 17 RBIs in 42 games this season. His move to the IL is retroactive to Wednesday.

Martin, 23, made his major league debut on April 6 against the Cincinnati Reds and batted .229 (8-for-35) with two doubles and two RBIs in 17 games before returning to the minors.
