D-backs’ Marte exits with apparent leg injury

Arizona second baseman Ketel Marte left the Diamondbacks’ Friday game in third inning after pulling up and favoring his left leg while running out an RBI single against the San Francisco Giants in Phoenix.

There was no immediate announcement on the severity of the injury.

Marte, who was trying for his fifth consecutive game with at least three hits, tripled into the right field corner in the first inning. In the third, his grounder up the middle got past second baseman Joe Panik to drive in Jarrod Dyson from second.

Marte, hitting .309 with 20 home runs, was announced Friday as a finalist for the All-Star Game’s “The Starters” election, which begins Wednesday.

He has multiple hits in six consecutive games and in nine of the past 11. The 25-year-old is hitting .543 (25-for-46) in those 11 games.
