The New York Yankees placed right-hander Masahiro Tanaka on the paternity leave list Saturday.
The 30-year-old right-hander is 3-5 with a 3.42 ERA in 13 starts this season. He will miss his regular turn in the rotation in Sunday’s series finale against the Cleveland Indians.
Tanaka returned to New York from Cleveland on Thursday to be with his wife for the birth of their second child, according to the Daily News.
Left-hander Nestor Cortes Jr. was recalled from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to replace Tanaka on the 25-man roster.
Cortes, 24, has appeared in four games in relief for the Yankees this season, allowing six runs and 13 hits with 13 strikeouts in 11 innings.
