Top NBA draft prospect Ja Morant will have minor surgery to remove a loose body from his right knee on Monday and will be sidelined 3-4 weeks, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported Saturday.
The 6-foot-3 point guard from Murray State is widely expected to be the No. 2 overall pick in the June 20 draft by the Memphis Grizzlies, behind presumptive No. 1 Zion Williamson of Duke.
The consensus All-American and Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Year averaged 24.5 points and an NCAA-best 10.0 assists per game for the Racers in 2018-19.
Morant, 19, opened the 2019 NCAA Tournament with a triple-double (17 points, 16 assists and 11 rebounds) in Murray State’s 83-64 upset of fifth-seeded Marquette.
Morant’s agent, Jim Tanner of Tandem Sports, told the teams with the top picks in the draft about his client’s impending surgical procedure on Saturday, sources told ESPN.
