Los Angeles Angels star outfielder Mike Trout was out of action Wednesday with a sore left foot, and the team would not guarantee his return Thursday at Seattle.
Trout was injured in the fourth inning Tuesday night at Oakland when he fouled a ball off the top of his shoe. He remained in the game and took a walk before Shohei Ohtani’s go-ahead single in a 6-4 victory, but Trout admitted later the foot was “killing” him in the latter stages of the game.
Trout was not in the lineup for Wednesday afternoon’s series finale against the A’s, and there is no set day for his return.
“I don’t expect him to be (out) more than a day, but you never know,” Angels manager Brad Ausmus told reporters before Wednesday’s game.
Trout, who was hitting just .179 over his past eight games, knew what he was in for Wednesday morning when his foot was aching during Tuesday night’s game.
“I expected it to be sore,” Trout said, according to MLB.com. “It was throbbing pretty good last night. I woke up and it was really sore.”
The seven-time All-Star is batting .276 and entered play Wednesday with a league-leading .449 on-base percentage, thanks to 49 walks. He has 12 home runs and 30 RBIs in 51 games.
