The Minnesota Twins placed left-hander Martin Perez on the paternity list on Saturday and called up a pair of hurlers to bolster the staff in the meantime.
The Twins called up righthander Kohl Stewart from Triple-A Rochester as Perez’s replacement on the 25-man roster and also recalled righthander Tyler Duffey from Rochester as the 26th man for Saturday’s split doubleheader against the Detroit Tigers.
Perez, 28, is 5-0 with a 2.83 ERA this season, appearing in eight games and making five starts.
When a player goes on the paternity list, the team can replace him on the roster for up to three days.
Overall, Perez is 48-49 with a 4.54 ERA in 149 career appearances (133 starts) over parts of eight seasons — the previous seven all with Texas. He missed large parts of 2014 and 2015 after undergoing Tommy John surgery.
Stewart has gone 2-2 with a 4.50 ERA in five starts with Rochester this season. He made one start with the Twins and gave up five runs in six innings.
Duffey posted a 1.69 ERA in four relief appearances with the Twins in April and has a 1.32 ERA in seven appearances with Rochester.
