Miami turns back to healthy Williams at QB

Redshirt freshman Jarren Williams will be back as Miami’s starting quarterback for Saturday’s rivalry game at Florida State.

Sophomore N’Kosi Perry has started the past three games while Williams recovered from a shoulder injury suffered Oct. 5 against Virginia Tech. Williams was available last week, however, and he came off the bench in the fourth quarter against Pittsburgh, throwing a game-winning 32-yard touchdown pass in the final minute of a 16-12 victory.

“Quite simply, Jarren Williams has been our starting quarterback,” coach Manny Diaz said after Wednesday’s practice, according to 247Sports.

“In terms of what happened a week ago, there is still a standard for preparation that Jarren was beat out by N’Kosi and that was why he started against Pitt. I think it is important for the University of Miami to have ‘a guy’ at quarterback, and Jarren has been our guy at quarterback.”

Williams has completed 94 of 135 passes for 1,136 yards, eight touchdowns and three interceptions for Miami (4-4, 2-3 ACC).

Perry is 77 of 136 for 975 yards, eight TDs and two interceptions.

Williams won the starting job in fall camp over Perry and Ohio State transfer Tate Martell.
