Veteran right-hander Edwin Jackson is rejoining the Oakland A’s organization on a minor league deal.
Jackson, 35, went 6-3 with a 3.33 ERA in 17 starts with Oakland last season. He has posted a career record of 104-123 with a 4.60 ERA in parts of 16 seasons with a whopping 13 teams, which is tied for the all-time record with former reliever Octavio Dotel.
Oakland’s rotation currently consists of Mike Fiers, Marco Estrada, Brett Anderson, Frankie Montas and Aaron Brooks. One of the team’s top starters, Sean Manaea, is out until at least the All-Star break as he recovers from shoulder surgery.
Jackson could challenge for a spot at the back end of the rotation once he builds his stamina. He proved to be consistent last season as he posted a 3.33 ERA in nine home starts and a 3.32 ERA in eight road starts.
The signing first was reported by The Athletic and later was confirmed by the A’s.
