Orioles sign RHP Straily

The Baltimore Orioles signed right-hander Dan Straily, the team announced Friday.

The 30-year-old received a one-year, $575,000 contract, according to multiple reports. Straily will receive a $250,000 bonus if traded.

The move was made to bolster the rotation, as the Orioles have twice utilized Nate Karns as an “opener” due to a shortage of starters. Projected Opening Day starter Alex Cobb sustained a groin injury late in spring training and made his season debut on Thursday.

Straily was released by the Miami Marlins on March 25 when the team opted to pay him slightly more than $1.2 million in termination pay as opposed to his $5 million salary.

Straily went 15-15 in two seasons with the Marlins. He finished 5-6 with a 4.12 ERA in 23 starts last season.

In seven big-league seasons, Straily is 42-36 with a 4.23 ERA in 142 appearances (132 starts). He produced a career-best season in 2016 with the Cincinnati Reds (14-8, 3.76 ERA).

He also has pitched for the Oakland Athletics (2012-14), Chicago Cubs (2014) and Houston Astros (2015).
