Pittsburgh Pirates starting outfielder Lonnie Chisenhall is out 4-6 weeks with a broken right index finger after getting hit by a pitch earlier this week, according to The Athletic.
The Pirates placed Chisenhall, 30, on the injured list. JB Shuck took Chisenhall’s spot on the active roster to start the season.
Melky Cabrera was set to get the nod in right field in the Pirates’ opener in Cincinnati on Thursday.
The Pirates signed Chisenhall to a one-year, $2.75 million deal in the offseason to play right field until Gregory Polanco was ready to return in late April. Polanco underwent surgery in September to repair a dislocated left shoulder and labrum injury.
Chisenhall was hitting just .206 in spring training in 14 games. He’s a career .268 hitter in his eight years in the major leagues, all with Cleveland.
