After fielding offers from several teams, quarterback Nick Foles agreed to contract terms with the Kansas City Chiefs, multiple media outlets reported Wednesday night.
Foles, released last week by the Los Angeles Rams at his own request, reportedly chose the Chiefs over the Dallas Cowboys and the Minnesota Vikings. The Cowboys were in the market for a backup quarterback after Kellen Moore sustained a serious leg injury Tuesday.
In Kansas City, Foles will be reunited with Andy Reid, who was his coach when the quarterback arrived in the NFL in 2012 with the Philadelphia Eagles.
Foles, 27, will back up Chiefs veteran quarterback Alex Smith.
The Rams acquired Foles in a March 2015 trade with the Eagles, and he spent one unproductive season in St. Louis before the franchise moved back to Los Angeles earlier this year.
After Foles started the first nine games for the Rams in 2015, he was benched in favor of Case Keenum. Foles threw only seven touchdown passes while getting intercepted six times and fumbling five times during a 4-5 start.
Foles wound up making 11 starts for St. Louis, throwing for 2,052 yards and seven touchdowns with 10 interceptions while completing 56.4 percent of his passes.
Foles went to the Pro Bowl in 2013 with the Eagles, when he compiled 27 touchdown passes with just two interceptions.
The Chiefs’ other quarterbacks are fourth-year veteran Tyler Bray and third-year man Aaron Murray, neither of whom has thrown an NFL pass.
Chase Daniel, Smith’s primary backup the past three years, signed a three-year free agent deal in March with the Eagles, whose new coach is former Chiefs offensive coordinator Doug Pederson.
Foles was selected by Philadelphia in the third round of the 2012 draft out of the University of Arizona.
