The Los Angeles Dodgers landed two key cogs in their pursuit of the National League West title prior to the non-waiver trade deadline on Monday afternoon.
Los Angeles acquired left-hander Rich Hill and power-hitting outfielder Josh Reddick from Oakland, Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports reported. Right-handed pitching prospects Jharel Cotton and Frankie Montas and left-hander Grant Holmes are reported to be heading to Oakland, according to Yahoo! Sports.
With Reddick shuffling to the Dodgers, questions can be raised about the team’s long-term plans for fellow outfielder Yasiel Puig.
Reddick is batting .296 with eight homers and 28 RBIs this season while dealing with a broken thumb earlier this season. The 29-year-old is just four seasons removed from a 32-homer performance.
Hill has posted a 9-3 mark with a 2.25 ERA and 90 strikeouts in 76 innings in 2016. The 36-year-old, however, is on the disabled list courtesy of a blister on his throwing hand and was limited to just five pitches in his last start on July 17.
Both players will be free agents after the season.
Cotton, 24, owns an 8-5 mark with a 4.90 ERA and 119 strikeouts in 97 1/3 innings with Triple-A Oklahoma City this season.
The 23-year-old Montas, who had been sidelined with a rib injury, has recorded 22 strikeouts against three walks while logging only 16 innings between Double-A and Triple-A this season.
Holmes, 20, posted an 8-4 mark with a 4.02 ERA and 100 strikeouts in 105 1/3 innings.
