PHOENIX — Desmond Jennings had three hits, including a solo homer, and Chris Archer struck out 12 in six innings to lead the Tampa Bay Rays to a 6-4 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Monday at Chase Field.
Jennings doubled home a run in a four-run fifth inning off Robbie Ray (2-5) and homered high off the left field foul pole in the seventh inning to help Archer break a three-game losing streak.
Tim Beckham hit a two-run homer and rookie Taylor Motter had two hits and an RBI as the Rays (26-30) extended their winning streak to four games, tying a season high.
Archer (4-7) gave up bases-empty homers to Ray and David Peralta among his five hits allowed while tying a season high in strikeouts he set on Opening Day against the Toronto Blue Jays. He yielded three runs, walked three and threw 115 pitches.
Alex Colome pitched a 1-2-3 ninth inning for his 16th save in his career-high fourth straight game.
Peralta also singled in his first game since May 7 after being activated from the disabled list, and Paul Goldschmidt had an RBI double in Arizona’s two-run third inning.
Tampa Bay’s Evan Longoria singled and walked twice to extend his hitting streak to 10 games, and Mikie Mahtook had two hits.
Ray had two hits for Arizona (25-35), which has lost 17 of its last 25 games after the team was 17-18 on May 10.
Ray hit a 1-1 pitch for his first career homer leading off the third inning, and Arizona took a 2-0 lead when Jean Segura walked and Goldschmidt hit a one-out double to right-center field.
Jennings, Motter and Curt Casali singled with two outs in the fourth inning, and Casali drove in Jennings to cut the Arizona lead to 2-1.
Tampa Bay took the lead with a four-run fourth inning, driving Ray out. Mahtook doubled to begin the rally before Beckham hit his third homer of the season, making it 3-2.
Ray walked the next two batters before Jennings doubled to drive in one. Motter’s sacrifice fly off reliever Randall Delgado brought in the fourth run of the inning, increasing the margin to 5-2.
Ray gave up eight hits and five runs in 4 2/3 innings.
