The Cleveland Indians placed outfielder Michael Brantley on the 15-day disabled list Saturday due to right shoulder inflammation.

The move is retroactive to May 10.

Brantley, 28, begins his second trip on the disabled list in 2016 after beginning the season rehabbing his right shoulder following offseason surgery in November to repair a torn labrum. He has appeared in 11 games, batting .231 (9-for-39) with seven RBIs.

To fill the roster spot, the Indians called up utility player Michael Martinez from Triple-A Columbus and moved catcher Roberto Perez (thumb surgery) to the 60-day DL.

–The New York Yankees acquired right-handed pitcher J.R. Graham from the Minnesota Twins.

The Yankees, who will send a player to be named later or cash considerations, optioned Graham to Double-A Trenton.

Graham, 26, had a 10.80 ERA over 1 2/3 innings in one relief appearance for the Twins this year. He was 1-1 with a 5.10 ERA over 65 1/3 innings in 40 career games (one start) with the Twins (2015-16). He spent the bulk of 2016 with Triple-A Rochester, going 0-2 with three saves and a 10.80 ERA over 8 1/3 innings in eight relief appearances.

The Yankees made seven other transactions. They placed right-hander Luis Severino (right triceps strain) on the 15-day disabled list, recalled right-hander Chad Green and right-hander Conor Mullee from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, and optioned catcher Gary Sanchez back to Triple-A.

To make room on the 40-man roster, the Yankees moved first baseman Greg Bird, right-hander Bryan Mitchell and outfielder Mason Williams to the 60-day disabled list.

–The Chicago Cubs activated catcher Miguel Montero from the disabled list and he started Saturday’s game against the visiting Pittsburgh Pirates.

To make room for Montero on the 25-man roster, the club designated outfielder Ryan Kalish for assignment. Kalish is 2-for-7 with two runs driven in for the Cubs this season.

Montero was out with lower back tightness since April 25. In three rehab games with Triple-A Iowa, he went 2-for-10 over three games.

–Detroit Tigers right-hander Shane Greene (blister on right middle finger) will likely have two rehab appearances before he rejoins the team, according to manager Brad Ausmus.

Greene threw a bullpen session Friday, but he was not happy with his performance.

–Baltimore Orioles right-hander Yovani Gallardo (right-shoulder bicep tendinitis) threw for the first time Saturday since going on the disabled list April 23.

Gallardo made 25 throws from 60 feet on flat ground and will likely expand the distance to 90 feet on Monday.

–Former Boston Red Sox pitcher Pedro Martinez, now a special assistant to president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski, attended a rehab start for left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez (right patellar subluxation) Saturday at Triple-A Pawtucket.
