Chicago Cubs left fielder Kyle Schwarber was carted off the field with a left leg injury Thursday after a collision with center fielder Dexter Fowler during a game against the Arizona Diamondbacks in Phoenix.
The Cubs announced that Schwarber sustained a sprained left ankle, but X-rays were negative. He is due to undergo an MRI exam Friday.
According to ESPN.com, Schwarber also hurt his left knee in the collision.
Diamondbacks second baseman Jean Segura hit a second-inning drive to left-center that both Schwarber and Fowler pursued. Schwarber’s left leg hit Fowler as the ball hit the turf. As Schwarber went down in pain, Fowler chased the ball, but Segura ended up with an inside the park home run.
Schwarber, who walked in his lone plate appearance Thursday, is 0-for-4 on the season.
Fantasy Status: Monitor Schwarber’s progress but it’s safe to say he’ll likely be out for a couple of days.
