Spring Training Scores: Young homers for Red Sox

Chris Young hit a three-run homer and Aneury Tavarez drove in two as the Boston Red Sox beat the New York Mets 9-4 Sunday in Port St. Lucie, Fla.

Ryan Hanigan added three hits for the Red Sox.

Mets starter Noah Syndergaard gave up two runs in five innings, striking out five.

Blue Jays 3, Pirates 2

Troy Tulowitzki hit a two-run homer to lead Toronto over Pittsburgh in Dunedin, Fla. That was enough to overcome the fourth home run of the spring from the Pirates’ Andrew McCutchen.

Ryan Goins added an RBI double for the Blue Jays.

Tigers 7 (ss), Nationals 6

Bryce Harper hit two home runs, but it wasn’t enough as Washington lost to Detroit in Lakeland, Fla.

Dominic Ficociello had two RBIs for the Tigers. Justin Verlander pitched five innings, giving up three runs, including two home runs.

Rays 8, Orioles 8

Pedro Alvarez had a grand slam and double and drove in five runs as Baltimore and Tampa Bay tied in Sarasota, Fla.

Mark Trumbo also hit a home run for the Orioles, a two-run shot.

Steven Souza Jr. hit a grand slam for the Rays.

Yankees 6, Twins 4

Ivan Nova pitched into the fifth inning, leading New York past Minnesota in Fort Myers, Fla.

Joe Mauer had two RBIs and Ervin Santana went five innings, allowing three earned runs for the Twins.

Marlins 5, Cardinals 2

Dee Gordon had two hits and an RBI and Christian Yelich had three hits, leading Miami over St. Louis in Jupiter, Fla.

Matt Carpenter had two hits and an RBI for the Cardinals, while Mike Leake gave up one run and five hits in five innings.

Phillies 5, Astros 4

Cesar Hernandez had two hits, including a home run and a double, and drove in three runs in Philadelphia’s win over Houston in Clearwater, Fla.

Jeremy Hellickson threw five hitless innings, striking out six for the Phillies.

Tigers (ss) 8, Braves 2

Jose Iglesias had three hits to lead Detroit over Atlanta in Kissimmee, Fla.

Bud Norris allowed seven runs and six hits in 4 2/3 innings for the Braves while Shane Green allowed just one run in five innings for the Tigers.

Giants 10, Rockies 4

Matt Duffy had three hits, two runs and an RBI, leading San Francisco over Colorado in Scottsdale, Ariz.

Nolan Arenado and Nick Hundley had two hits each for the Rockies in the loss.

Indians 3, Mariners 1

Jose Ramirez hit two home runs to power Cleveland over Seattle.

TJ House pitched four scoreless innings for the Indians, while Daniel Robertson drove in the Mariners’ lone run.

Padres 12, Dodgers (ss) 5

Jon Jay went 4-for-4 with an RBI and two runs, Melvin Upton Jr. had two hits, two runs and three RBIs, and San Diego pounded a Los Angeles split squad.

Corey Brown had two RBIs for the Dodgers.

Brewers 3, Dodgers (ss) 1

Milwaukee outfielder Rymer Liriano had to be removed from the field after he was hit in the face by a pitch from Los Angeles right-hander Matt West in the eighth inning in Maryvale, Ariz.

Colin Walsh went 4-for-4 for the Brewers, and Charlie Culberson had a home run for the Dodgers.

Angels 5, Rangers 1

Yunel Escobar had two hits and Daniel Nava hit a home run to lead Los Angeles over Texas in Surprise, Ariz.

Ryan Rua hit a homer for the Rangers in the loss.

Cubs 5, Royals 2

Jorge Soler hit a two-run homer and Jon Lester allowed just one earned run in five innings as Chicago topped Kansas City in Mesa, Ariz.

Dexter Fowler tripled and scored twice for the Cubs. Tony Cruz had two hits for the Royals.

White Sox 6, Athletics 1

Jerry Sands had two home runs and three RBIs to lead Chicago over Oakland in Mesa, Ariz.

Matt Davidson added three hits for the White Sox, while Danny Valencia had an RBI triple for the A’s.

Diamondbacks 9, Reds 3

Jean Segura had three hits, Phil Gosselin had a homer and three RBIs, and Arizona powered past Cincinnati.

Lefty Brandon Finnegan gave up six runs on five hits in one inning to take the loss for the Reds.
