Spring Scores: Puig hits first spring homer

Yasiel Puig was cleared Wednesday by Major League Baseball after an investigation into domestic assault involving his sister and delivered his first home run of the spring in the Los Angeles Dodgers’ 7-3 victory over the Colorado Rockies in Glendale, Ariz.

Puig belted a solo home run in the fourth inning and also made a diving catch in right field on a ball hit by Charlie Blackmon in the fifth.

Mariners 9, Giants 6

Leonys Martin and Luis Sardinas homered in Seattle’s six-run third inning against San Francisco’s Jeff Samardzija and the Mariners’ Chris Iannetta chipped in with two hits and two RBIs in Peoria, Ariz. Samardzija was rocked for seven runs and eight hits, including three home runs, in four innings for the Giants, who got two hits and three RBIs from Trevor Brown.

Angels 6, Indians 3

Gregorio Petit hit two home runs off Cody Anderson and Albert Pujols drove in a first-inning run for Los Angeles against Cleveland in Goodyear, Ariz.

Jason Kipnis and Mike Napoli homered for the Indians. Napoli’s home run was his third of the spring.

Orioles 9, Pirates 3

Jonathan Schoop socked a three-run homer in the fifth inning and Christian Walker homered in a four-run seventh to lift Baltimore over Pittsburgh in Sarasota, Fla. Pirates right-hander Juan Nicasio had 10 strikeouts in four innings and Andrew McCutchen hit a two-run homer in a three-run fourth for the Pirates.

Tigers 7, Astros 3

Jordan Zimmermann pitched three shutout innings and Ian Kinsler, Mike Gerber and Bryan Holaday homered for Detroit against Houston in Kissimmee, Fla. Jon Singleton doubled, homered and had three RBIs for the Astros.

Nationals 4, Marlins 2

Michael Taylor hit a three-run homer in the third inning off Miami starter Wei-yin Chen to lift Washington past the Marlins in Jupiter, Fla. Ben Revere drove in the other Nationals run with a single and the Marlins produced two runs in the sixth when Dee Gordon had an RBI triple and scored on a wild pitch.

Cardinals 8, Braves 8

Pinch-hitter Carlos Peguero blasted a tying home run in the ninth inning in Kissimmee, Fla. Atlanta rallied for four runs in the fourth inning against St. Louis starter Jaime Garcia after he stymied Atlanta in the first three innings. Jace Peterson’s two-run double was part of a four-run eighth that helped the Pirates tie the score.

Brewers 5, White Sox 2

Ryan Braun made his spring debut coming off back surgery with an RBI single in his first at-bat and also had a running catch in left field and scored a run for Milwaukee against Chicago in Phoenix. Matt Garza did not give up a run in four innings for the Brewers.
