Buffalo Bills wide receiver Chris Hogan is five days from potentially joining the New England Patriots after signing a three-year, $12 million offer sheet Friday.

Hogan, a restricted free agent, visited the Patriots along with Los Angeles Rams restricted free agent Benny Cunningham.

The Bills are tight against the salary cap and would likely need to manuever existing contracts to clear the space to retain Hogan, whose first-year cap number with the Patriots would be $5.5 million.

If Buffalo chooses not to match the offer, Hogan would join the Patriots.

Hogan was the No. 3 receiver most of last season for the Bills and was particularly successful against the Patriots. He was also tendered at the low level despite catching 77 passes the past two seasons. Given their cap situation — the Bills were projected at $4 million under the cap Thursday morning — matching the offer sheet for Hogan might prove challenging.
