
PORTLAND, Ore. — Guard Damian Lillard bombed in a career-high 51 points to lead the Portland Trail Blazers to a 137-105 drubbing of the Golden State Warriors on Friday night at the Moda Center.
Guard CJ McCollum added 21 points and seven assists and center Mason Plumlee contributed 12 points, five rebounds and five assists for the Trail Blazers (28-27), who won for the ninth time in 10 games.
Guard Stephen Curry scored 31 points despite not playing the fourth quarter for the Warriors (48-5), who saw an 11-game win streak ended.
Guard Klay Thompson had 21 points for the Warriors, who suffered their most one-sided defeat of the season.
The Blazers shot 53.6 percent from the field and a sizzling 56.7 percent from 3-point range, knocking down 17 of 30 shots from beyond the arc.
The Warriors shot 39.1 percent from the field and 35.3 (12 of 34) from 3-point range.
Portland emerged from a whirlwind first half with a 68-62 lead after seizing a 19-point lead early in the second quarter. Lillard had 19 points and six assists in the half. Curry scored 24 and center Draymond Green compiled 12 points, seven rebounds and six assists for the Warriors.
The Blazers built the lead to 93-75 after nine straight points by Lillard midway through the third quarter. After a 9-0 Portland run, it was 102-75 moments later.
Portland took a 104-79 advantage into the fourth quarter and increased the margin to 35 points in the late going.
The Blazers got off to a superb start, sinking eight of their first nine shots from the field to jump in front 19-14. They increased the margin to 42-31 after a first quarter that featured a shootout between point guards Lillard (17 points) and Curry (16).
Portland made 17 of 26 shots in scoring the most points by a Warrior opponent in any quarter this season.
Portland’s lead was 54-35 four minutes into the second quarter. The difference was 58-40 when the Warriors used a 12-0 surge to get within 58-52.
NOTES: Golden State coach Steve Kerr was asked how he felt about the 1-2 finish by G Klay Thompson and G Stephen Curry in the 3-point contest during NBA All-Star weekend. “Perfect ending,” Kerr said. “I’d like them to trade off every year. Last year, Steph won. This year, it was Klay. Golden State brought an 11-game win streak while Portland had won eight of its last nine. … The Blazers activated G Brian Roberts, acquired in a Thursday trade with Charlotte. “He brings a veteran presence,” coach Terry Stotts said. “He knows the league. He’s a very good shooter. He will fill the role that Tim (Frazier) had.” Frazier was waived Thursday. … The Warriors entered the game leading the league in scoring (115.5), field-goal percentage (.490), 3-point percentage (.424), assists (29.2) and opponents’ field-goal percentage (.430).
