The Denver Broncos placed safety Omar Bolden on injured reserve and signed cornerback Taurean Nixon to the active roster on Tuesday.
Bolden suffered a right knee injury during the Broncos’ 23-17 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday in an AFC divisional playoff game. He had just returned from a hamstring injury and earlier in the game returned a punt 42 yards.
A MRI on Monday found a Grade 2 posterior cruciate ligament strain. Bolden will not need surgery, but the injury will keep him from returning during the postseason. Bolden missed four games after suffering the right hamstring injury on Dec. 6 in a game at San Diego.
Bolden played in nine regular-season games and led the Broncos in punt returns (five for 24.6-yard average, one touchdown) and kickoff returns (15 for 22.8-yard average).
Nixon, a rookie, has spent the 2015 season on the Broncos’ practice squad. He was drafted in the seventh round out in May.
