The Dallas Cowboys reportedly gave up on Christine Michael on Tuesday, releasing the running back the team hoped would help their ground game, him “era” is over in Dallas.
The move was reported by NFL.com.
The Cowboys acquired Michael before the season in a trade with the Seattle Seahawks in exchange for an undisclosed 2016 NFL Draft pick.
Michael, a former second-round draft pick, carried just 15 times for the Cowboys and rushed for 51 yards. His season high was 20 yards against the Seahawks in Week 8.
The 24-year-old backed up running back Marshawn Lynch in Seattle for two seasons and showed flashes of ability, but he wasn’t able to establish himself in Dallas.
Former Oakland Raiders running back Darren McFadden has taken over as the starting running back for the Cowboys after Joseph Randle was suspended and released and Michael didn’t pan out.
The Dallas offense also has been missing quarterback Tony Romo and wide receiver Dez Bryant for most of the season because of injuries.
