*Darius Slayton – Noteworthy
Auburn wide receiver Darius Slayton equaled Julio Jones by clearing 11 feet, 3 inches in the broad jump at the NFL Scouting Combine on Saturday. Before joining the Atlanta Falcons as the sixth player picked in the 2011 NFL Draft, Jones went 11 feet, 3 inches from a standing start in the broad jump at the NFL Scouting Combine. Jones starred at Foley High School and Alabama on his way to the 2011 combine. His broad-jump performance had stood alone as the best at the combine since 2000 by a player from an Alabama high school or college until Slayton equaled it on Saturday at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.
Slayton also got 40.5 inches off the ground in the vertical jump on Saturday, which tied for the fifth-best since 2000 among players with Alabama roots. Only one Auburn player has a better vertical-jump showing in that span — wide receiver Sammie Coates, who went 41 inches in 2015. Three other state players also have a 40.5-inch performance in the vertical jump — cornerback Carlos Rogers (Auburn) in 2005, running back Ben Tate (Auburn) in 2010 and safety Siran Neal (Eufaula, Jacksonville State) in 2018. Slayton was one of five players from Alabama high schools and colleges on the field on Saturday, along with wide receivers Ryan Davis (Auburn) and Jamarius Way (South Alabama), tight end Irv Smith Jr. (Alabama) and quarterback Jarrett Stidham (Auburn). – Birmingham News
