Rookie switch-hitter Raul A. Mondesi was added to the World Series roster of the Kansas City Royals in favor of base-stealing outfielder Terrance Gore.

Mondesi, 20, has never played in a major league game and would be the first player to make his MLB debut in the World Series.

The infielder could serve as a pinch-hitting option for games played in New York, when the Royals will not have a designated hitter in the lineup.

The Mets added infielder Juan Uribe to their World Series roster. Uribe missed the first two rounds of the postseason with a bruised chest. Uribe has played in two World Series and was added in favor of backup shortstop Matt Reynolds.

If the Mondesi name looks familiar, it should. Mondesi is the son of former major-leaguer Raul Mondesi, who played 13 seasons, primarily for the Dodgers and Blue Jays.

Mondesi has very good speed and is primarily a shortstop but also has played second base and the outfield. Adding him to the roster also gives manager Ned Yost protection should second baseman Ben Zobrist, whose wife is pregnant, need to take paternity leave.

To add Mondesi to their 40-man roster, the Royals designated reliever Joba Chamberlain for assignment.
