As the regular season reaches the stretch run, the St. Louis Cardinals are regaining the services of another key player.
Outfielder Matt Holliday, who has been sidelined with a strained right quadriceps, was activated from the 15-day disabled list on Tuesday before the Cardinals’ series opener against the Brewers in Milwaukee.
The 35-year-old Holliday missed 41 games since July 30 when he injured the quad for the second time this season. The National League All-Star also was on the disabled list from June 9 to July 16 with the same injury, forcing him to miss the Midsummer Classic.
In 63 games this season, Holliday is batting .290 with four homers and 31 RBIs.
The Cardinals also welcomed back first baseman Matt Adams last week. Adams had been out since late May with a quadriceps tear and Tuesday night he was scheduled to start for the first time since then.
Since Adams was activated last week, he served as a pinch hitter. Holliday was not in the starting lineup Tuesday night.
