Evan Worthington – Noteworthy
Evan Worthington’s ambitious goal at the NFL combine next week is flipping his reputation from under-the-radar to can’t-miss prospect. The former Colorado safety is laser-focused on a breakthrough 40-yard dash time. “4.39 seconds,” Worthington said. “That’s the ultimate goal for me.” Don’t blink or you might miss the small fraternity of recent sub-4.4 safeties at the combine: Penn State’s Troy Apke (2018), Clemson’s T.J. Green (2016) and Mississippi State’s Justin Cox (2015). What makes Worthington think he’s next in line? “I have the long strides for it and I feel like I’m fast enough,” Worthington said. “I’ve got to get out of my stance and be really explosive. It comes down to the steps I take and specific stuff I need to focus on.” Worthington (6-2, 200) is in the final stages of pre-combine training at Ford Sports Performance in Seattle after an up-and-down CU career. He blossomed as a junior with honorable mention All-Pac-12 honors after a team-high 66 solo tackles, three interceptions and seven pass breakups. But Worthington’s senior year was marred by three concussions and four missed games. His production suffered. “It had an effect on my draft stock, for sure,” he said. – Denver Post
