Arseneault to return as Reno coach in D-League

The Sacramento Kings retained David Arseneault Jr. as coach of their NBA Development League franchise in Reno, picking up his contract option on Tuesday.

The 28-year-old Arseneault completed his first season last month with the Bighorns, who posted a 20-30 record.

Reno led the D-League in scoring at 133.1 points per game, 3-pointers made and attempted with 17.2 and 46.9 per game, and assists (26.8 per game). The Bighorns also set a D-League record with 31 3-pointers made in a Jan. 31 win over Santa Cruz.

“We are excited to continue with David as our coach in Reno,” Clippers vice president of basketball and franchise operations Vlade Divac said. “He demonstrated an ability to develop players prepared to contribute at the professional level and his system complements (Kings coach) George Karl’s desire to run an up-tempo style of play in Sacramento.”

A league-leading seven Reno players were called up to the NBA this season: Quincy Miller to Sacramento and Detroit, Jordan Hamilton to the Los Angeles Clippers, and David Wear, Sim Bhullar and David Stockton to the Kings.

Arseneault set a NCAA Division III career assists record and the assists record for a game with 34 in 2008 playing in Grinnell (Iowa) College’s fast-paced offense under his father. After graduating, he worked under his father at Grinnell and became associated head coach before he took the Reno job in October.
