The NBA will be the first major U.S. sports league to conduct business in Cuba since the Obama administration announced a thaw in relations between the two countries.
Former players Steve Nash and Dikembe Mutombo will be among the American athletes who will take part in a basketball development camp led by the Cuban men’s and women’s national teams.
The four-day clinic will begin April 23 and also include NBA coaches Utah Quin Snyder and Orlando’s James Borrego.
“It all came together pretty quickly,” NBA deputy commissioner Mark Tatum told the Wall Street Journal. “We hope this is the beginning of a long and positive relationship with the Cuban Basketball Federation.”
