New York Yankees left-hander Chris Capuano is likely to start the season on the disabled list after suffering a right quadriceps strain during the first inning of an exhibition start on Wednesday against the Boston Red Sox.

The 36-year-old Capuano pulled up limping while running to cover first base on a grounder by Boston’s Brock Holt in a Grapefruit League game. The team announced that he has a Grde 2 strain.

Capuano was expected to be part of the starting rotation this season after re-signing with the Yankees during the offseason. Last year, he pitched in a combined 40 games for the Boston Red Sox and Yankees and posted a 3-4 record with a 4.35 ERA in 97 1/3 innings split between the rotation and the bullpen.

Right-hander Adam Warren appears to be a prime candidate to take Capuano’s spot in the rotation. The 27-year-old Warren pitched 69 games in relief last year for the Yankees and was 3-6 with a 2.97 ERA and three saves in 78 2/3 innings.
