The Orlando Magic hired Igor Kokoskov as an assistant coach on Tuesday.
The 43-year-old Kokoskov, 43, was an assistant for the Cleveland Cavaliers last season and also has served as an assistant for the Phoenix Suns (2008-13) and the Detroit Pistons (2003-08).
In 2000, Kokoskov earned the distinction of being the first full-time, non-American assistant coach in NBA history with the Los Angeles Clippers, where he spent three seasons before going to Detroit.
Kokoskov also was the first non-American assistant at an NCAA Division I school when he worked on Quin Snyder’s staff at Missouri during the 1999-2000 season.
The Serbian native has additional experience as an assistant and head coach in Europe. He was an assistant on the Serbian national team at the 2004 Summer Olympics.
Earlier this month, the Magic fired head coach Jacque Vaughn and assistant James Borrego took over as interim coach.
Orlando (17-39) is in last place in the Southeast Division this season, 27 games behind first-place Atlanta in the standings.
