The Washington Redskins named Wes Phillips as tight ends coach, and retained offensive line coach Chris Foerster and defensive coordinator Jim Haslett, the team announced Friday.

Phillips spent the last seven seasons in various coaching capacities with the Dallas Cowboys. Before assuming the role of tight ends coach in 2013, Phillips assisted the Cowboys’ offense in multiple roles over six seasons. Dallas’ offense finished in the NFL’s top 10 in six of Phillips’ seasons with the team.

Cowboys’ Jason Witten led all tight ends in receptions (627), receiving yards (6,961) and yards after catch (2,589), while earning five Pro Bowl berths in the last seven seasons.

Phillips, 34, was a quarterback at UTEP from 1999-01. He played for the San Diego Riptide in the AF2 from 2002-03. He returned to UTEP as a student assistant coach in 2003. He also served as an assistant at West Texas A&M (2004-05) and Baylor (2006).

Foerster, 52, joined the Redskins as offensive line coach in 2010. The Redskins rushed for an NFL-high 4,873 yards in the past two years. Tackle Trent Williams earned Pro Bowl berths in each of the past two seasons under Foerster.

Haslett, 58, has been the Redskins’ defensive coordinator for the past four seasons. The defense has accounted for seven of the team’s 10 Pro Bowlers since 2010.

On Thursday, the Redskins named Kirk Olivadotti as inside linebackers coach, and retained defensive line coach Jacob Burney and defensive backs coach Raheem Morris.
