Relatively positive news is expected from the Washington Redskins on Monday, with quarterback Robert Griffin III likely to return this season from a dislocated ankle.

Griffin underwent tests and a full medical evaluation for what coach Jay Gruden and the Redskins feared could be a season-ending injury.

According to multiple reports, Griffin might miss only 4-6 weeks.

Griffin said Sunday he knew immediately something wasn’t right just by looking down at his ankle.
six minutes and three seconds into a 41-10 Washington Redskins victory that could be his last for months.

“Any time you look at your ankle and it’s in a different direction, you’re probably not going to try to get up,” said Griffin, who termed the pain “excruciating” from an injury that’s being described as dislocated – which technically often includes fractured bones – until better diagnosed after an MRI on Monday. “We’re thinking positive, but let the doctors … do their jobs and help us understand exactly what’s going on with my ankle.”

The Redskins play two games in five days beginning Sunday against defending NFC East champion Philadelphia, followed by two primetime games — a Thursday night game Sept. 24 against the Giants and Monday, Oct. 5 in Washington against the Seattle Seahawks.

Backup Kirk Cousins would start at least that stretch of games.
