The Seattle Seahawks signed defensive end Cliff Avril to a four-year contract extension worth $28.5 million with $16 million guaranteed, according to multiple reports Friday.

Avril, who was set to become a free agent at the end of the season, joined the Seahawks in 2013. The 28-year-old pass rusher has totaled 40 tackles, 12.5 sacks and six forced fumbles over 29 games. He has 20 tackles and 4.5 sacks this season.

Avril was drafted by the Detroit Lions in the third round of the 2008 draft. He landed in Seattle after turning down a three-year, $30 million offer from the Lions.

Avril’s new deal comes just one day after the Seahawks signed linebacker K.J. Wright to a four-year contract extension.
