The San Francisco 49ers made what has become a regular roster move on Tuesday, signing quarterback Josh Johnson to a one-year deal and releasing safety Bubba Ventrone.
It is the fourth time since May that the 49ers have signed Johnson to a contract.
The roster maneuvering allows the team to add Johnson as a scout team quarterback during the week and then drop him for a special teams player before the weekend game.
Johnson has not seen any game action this season.
Ventrone had one tackle in the 49ers’ 42-17 loss to the Denver Broncos last week. He has played in two games this year.
