Miami police are investigating what the official police report terms a “suspicious incident” involving San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick and two other NFL players.

The Sacramento Bee first reported the identity of the two other players: 49ers wide receiver Quinton Patton and Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Ricardo Lockette, who once played for the 49ers and is a close friend of Kaepernick’s.

A City of Miami Police spokesperson said Thursday that police are following up on a sexual assault information report that involves Kaepernick.

According to the report, the incident occurred April 1 when a woman went to Lockette’s apartment in Miami at 9 p.m. Kaepernick and Patton were there, and the woman made drinks and served shots to the players. She was also told “to drink the shots she had to ‘hit’ the bong which contained marijuana,” the report said.

The woman states she “started to feel lightheaded and went to a bedroom to lay down.” She says she “took off her jacket and jewelry” at which point “Mr. Kaepernick came behind her into the bedroom and started kissing her.”

She “advised that Mr. Kaepernick started to undressed (sic) her” and that “she got completely naked.”

At that point she claims Kaepernick left the bedroom and that “they did not have sex.” The woman claims Patton and Lockette “peeked” into the room and she yelled “What are you doing? Where’s Colin? Get out!”

According to the report, the woman does not remember anything about the night after that point. She woke up in a hospital bed the following morning not knowing how she got there. The woman, whose name is redacted, reported the incident to police on April 3.

The woman acknowledged a prior sexual history with Kaepernick, the report said.

The 49ers released a statement from general manager Trent Baalke:

“The 49ers organization is aware of the recent media report regarding Colin Kaepernick and is in the process of gathering the pertinent facts.”

The Seahawks also released a team statement regarding Lockette:

“We are aware of the situation, monitoring it closely and will not have any further comment at this time.”

Miami Chief of Police Manuel Orosa said the department is investigating.

“There was an incident and we are investigating,” Orosa told the Miami Herald.

The news first surfaced via TMZ.com, which cited law enforcement sources that told them Kaepernick was being investigated.

Kaepernick last year trained with Lockette in the Atlanta area and they lived together in Santa Clara until Lockette was released, according to the Bee.

Kaepernick was in Miami last week apparently training, according to his Instagram account.

Last month, Baalke said he wanted an agreement on a new contract with Kaepernick in place before the start of training camp in late July.

Kaepernick is scheduled to make $1.073 million in the final year of his original four-year contract. A long-term deal could reach an annual average of between $17 million and $20 million per season.

Lockette played in the Super Bowl with the Seahawks and his current contract runs through the 2014 season.
