Steelers sign WR Heyward-Bey

The Pittsburgh Steelers signed wide receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey to a one-year contract, the team announced Wednesday.

He had 29 catches for 309 yards and a touchdown with the Indianapolis Colts last season.

Heyward-Bey (6-2, 219) was originally selected by the Oakland Raiders in the first round (seventh overall) of the 2009 NFL Draft. He spent his first four seasons with Oakland before being released on March 12, 2013. He signed a one-year contract with the Colts on April 1, 2013 and played in a career-high 16 games last season.

For his career, Heyward-Bey has appeared in 72 regular-season games and made 64 starts. In his five NFL seasons, he has recorded 169 receptions for 2,380 yards and 12 touchdowns. He has also carried 11 times for 109 yards.

Heyward-Bey, 27, appeared in his first career postseason game with the Colts last season, but did not register a reception.
