The Philadelphia Eagles signed linebacker DeMeco Ryans to a one-year contract extension on Monday.

Ryans was due to make $6.9 million in 2015, the final year of his previous deal, and the added year is expected to lower his salary cap number.

Ryans, 30, is coming off an Achilles injury that ended his 2014 season in November.

Acquired in 2012 from the Houston Texans, Ryans has led the Eagles with 390 tackles in 40 games over the past three years. He also has five sacks, four interceptions and one fumble recovery.

A second-round pick by the Texans in 2006, Ryans played in Houston for his first six seasons. He was named Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2006 and made the Pro Bowl team in 2007 and 2009 and the All-Pro team in 2007.
