Quarterback Derek Carr sat out the Oakland Raiders’ organized team activities on Tuesday with an undisclosed injury.

ESPN reported that Carr hurt his right ring finger and that surgery might be needed, causing him to miss all of the OTAs.

Raiders coach Jack Del Rio indicated the injury wasn’t serious but wouldn’t get into specifics. It’s believed that Carr, beginning his second year in Oakland, also sat out offseason workouts last week.

“Time missed in May is better than time missed in September,” Rio said, according to CSN Bay Area. “You’re often more capable of taking whatever time is necessary to make sure you put things behind you.”

With Carr not on the field, Christian Ponder ran with the first-team offense. The backups were Matt McGloin and Cody Fajardo.

The Raiders will participate in OTAs for the next three weeks leading up to the start of minicamp on June 9.
